Beyond the Curriculum - Gifted and Talented

Our Beyond the Curriculum portfolio is specifically designed to meet the needs of your Gifted and Talented Learners at Key Stage 3. We have two programmes available: the AQA Project Qualification and the Edexcel Maths Awards programme. Please read below to find out more.

"The Twenty Twenty Learning maths course is a good course to complete due to the amount basic maths skills you knew and teaches you many more as an addition. I would recommend this to anyone interested in maths and getting extra qualifications."

Thomas H, Beauchamps High School Student

Gifted and Talented Programmes

A one or two-year programme, enabling your Gifted and Talented students to achieve a formal AQA qualification by completing an independent learning project, based on a subject of their choosing.

The aim of the programme is for KS3 students to generate ideas about the huge possibilities the future holds, through the exploration of a range of vocational and intellectual disciplines. We want individuals to identify their own strengths, passions and interests, and develop a range of key skills, such as: Academic Excellence Pathway

Independent and collaborative working
Critical thinking
Presenting and communicating
Reflective practice.

Gifted and Talented Programmes

In order to complete the programme and achieve the AQA Level 1 Foundation or Level 2 Higher Project qualification, students are required to take personal responsibility for their own learning. The programme consists of a series of extra-curricular workshops, delivered over the course of an academic year, to provide a clear structure and ongoing support for students as they independently research, create and reflect on the project of their choosing. Previous project titles have included:

How do animals communicate with each other?
The effect of energy drinks on the human body
How do black holes form?

Each school is assigned a personal facilitator your students will build a firm relationship with, to ensure they feel secure asking for help and guidance. Everything is planned by us and all resources are provided. We even cover all the administrative requirements, such as registers, timetables, letters to parents – and constant communication via phone/email/social media with students.

Gifted and Talented Programmes

The AQA Project Qualification aims to foster an intellectual curiosity to enhance learning across the curriculum, and lay the foundation for success at GCSE and beyond.

Students enrolled on the programme will have the opportunity to visit a range of different cultural and academic institutions over two-years, including: Academic Excellence Pathway

The Natural History Museum
The Science Museum
The British Museum
A Russell Group University
Academic Excellence Pathway

"Our students were eager to sign up to the programme following an initial presentation from Twenty Twenty Learning, and haven’t looked back. We’ve been delighted with how the group have applied themselves and their first-year results reflected this; every student achieved A* - B in their Level 1 Foundation Project and we are fully confident in their upcoming results for the Level 2 Higher Project. We have been very impressed overall with how the programme is structured and has been delivered – it has provided the challenge our most able students needed."

Maths Mastery

A series of challenging, extracurricular workshops, for KS3 students you have identified as having the potential to achieve the highest levels in GCSE mathematics. Working with small groups, the programme is delivered over the course of an academic year by one of our specialist maths facilitators, during which time students will work towards achieving at least two formal qualifications accredited by leading exam board Edexcel.

Maths Mastery

They’re a suite of stand‐alone qualifications in mathematics that support the GCSE, International GCSE, Edexcel Certificate, BTEC and A level qualifications offered in schools and colleges. We're currently offering Edexcel Awards in three different units as part of this programme: Number and Measure, Algebra and Statistical Methods.

Maths Mastery Each Award:

takes around 30 hours of contact time to deliver
is assessed externally through written papers
is awarded Pass or Unclassified
is available at different levels (Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3).

These assessments give students the opportunity for exam practice in a formal ‘real’ environment at Key Stage 3 – valuable experience ahead of their GCSE curriculum exams.

"We saw the Edexcel Maths Awards programme as a brilliant opportunity to ensure our brightest mathematicians were reaching their full potential. Our students constantly tell us how much they enjoy the workshops and it’s evident their confidence, motivation and ability in maths improves significantly as the course progresses. The results demonstrate the programme has been overwhelmingly successful and I have no doubt that these students will be our high-attainers because of their commitment to succeed with Twenty Twenty Learning."
